Information for Parents
It is preferable to obtain a referral from your family doctor prior to your appointment. Appointments are generally 30 minutes with Dr Daubeney, consultant paediatric cardiologist and fetal consultant. After a discussion of the symptoms he will examine your child and then may perform an echocardiogram should it be necessary. This will require the child to lie still in a semi-darkened room for 15-20 minutes.
For younger children and babies it is recommended that parents bring toys, bottles of milk, food etc as distraction. At most clinics there is a DVD available. Please bring the child's favourite if you think helpful
After the echo scan it may be necessary to perform other tests such as an electrocardiogram (ECG), height, weight, oxygen saturation, blood pressure.
After the investigations Dr Daubeney will discuss the results, conclusions and if needed treatment plan.
